Acclaimed New York dance company, Janis Brenner & Dancers will bring their works of “meticulous artistry” to Abrasevic on Monday night, February 13th. The company will present three works: one is the World Premiere of Once You are Not a Stranger, inspired by Ms. Brenner’s 2016 visit to Sarajevo and with an original music score by Bosnian composer Svjetlana Bukvich. The 35-minute work looks at the idea of Empathy and “Otherness” in today’s increasingly fractured world: how much we need one another and need to “see” each other. Video Installation designed by Slovenian artist Eva Petric is projected inside a large, beautiful set-piece made of cloths and fabrics from more than 20 countries around the world representing the American dancers’ family histories and places of origin.

In addition, the company will perform their humorous and emotionally moving “signature” work, Lost, Found, Lost which incorporates local dancers into the final section. Five dancers from the National Ballet will perform alongside Janis Brenner & Dancers. The program is completed by Ms. Brenner performing her acclaimed Vocal Suite from Songs From The Hill by the legendary composer, interdisciplinary artist Meredith Monk.
